I waited and waited and waited, but finally got the call today - my camera had arrived from Canon just over 6 weeks after I had ordered it. Needless to say, I charged the batteries and got outside as quickly as I could to take my first pictures. This page represents just a few of the 75 pictures that I snapped before it got dark. For those of you who don't know me - this is my first DSLR - and I definitely have a lot to learn. I plan to keep this page up so that in 12 months I can look back and say - "can you believe I took those pictures?" Most of these pictures were taken with my 70-200 F/2.8 L IS lens along with a 1.4x extender. This was obviously not the ideal set-up for most of these pictures, but I have been dying to use that lens since I bought it 6 weeks ago - it too has patiently waited for the 'arrival'. I also have two primes: a 50mm f/1.4 prime which got some action today and a 20mm f/2.8 which has not even been mounted yet. I can't wait to use the 50mm more tomorrow.

This was my first picture (excluding 3 shots of objects on my desk to test the camera). My beautiful wife has been so patient, dealing with me during the agonizing wait. Its easy to take good pictures when your model is this pretty.

I love the fast shutter and the DOF - could never do this with my Sony DSCS-70.

This shows a decent example of the detail achievable, though I didn't take a lot of pictures intending to show-off the sharpness. All of my shots (including this one) were handheld in Large Fine Mode and like this one, most were with the 1.4x extender on my 70-200 - I figure a tripod and Raw mode with my 50mm f/1.4 will create some very crisp images.
